Macro Through a Nikon Lens

Book info

The realm of macro photography is like no other, because it homes in on a small portion of what we normally see in the natural world. By focusing only on a part of a plant or animal, we view it in a totally new light. We appreciate colours and textures - especially if they are quite subtle; patterns and designs become highlighted. We can make the ordinary look extraordinary. “Many a time I have seen things in the focusing screen that had not been apparent to the naked eye”, says the book’s author, Heather Angel.

Even though the process involved in taking natural close-ups is much easier than when Heather started photographing, several decades ago, images still have to be seen and isolated from amongst the plethora of subjects that exist cheek by jowl in the field. This is the thrill of working at the macro end of the scale.  For it is here the unexpected can be discovered and captured for others to see and appreciate anew. Taking macro shots really is all about the art of seeing.

About the Book's Author

Heather Angel

Heather Angel is an award-winning photographer who has been at the forefront of nature photography in Britain for three decades. In 2000, Practical Photography described her as ‘the doyenne of nature photography’.

Her love of the natural world began during her childhood summer holidays spent on her maternal grandparents’ Suffolk farm. It was therefore a natural progression for her to study zoology at University; but at that time she had no ambition to be a photographer.
